1. Introduction

Translatium is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our macOS translation application.

2. Information We Collect

License information: when you activate Translatium, we collect your license key to verify your plan status, track the number of activated devices, and provide license management features.

Payment information: when you purchase or manage a paid plan, Polar.sh processes your payment details. We may receive transaction and subscription metadata such as order identifiers, subscription status, plan type, billing period, amount, currency, and renewal or cancellation status.

Usage data: we track translation requests and related usage metadata to enforce the daily translation quota for your current plan, prevent abuse, and operate the service.

BYOK information: if you choose to use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), your OpenAI API key is stored only in the local keychain on your device. The app does not store your key on our servers.

Translation content: text you translate is sent to the translation provider required by the engine you choose, including OpenAI for Translatium AI. We do not store your translation content after processing.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to verify and manage your plan, provide translation services, enforce plan-based daily usage quotas, improve the app, and communicate important service updates.

4. Data Storage and Security

License and usage data is stored securely on our own server infrastructure, with encryption in transit and access controls in place to protect stored information.

We implement industry-standard security measures, including SSL/TLS encryption, secure authentication, and regular security reviews.

5. Accessibility Permissions

Translatium requires macOS Accessibility permissions to detect text selection across applications. This permission is used solely to provide the selection-based translation feature.

We do not log, store, or transmit any text you select beyond the specific text you choose to translate.

6. Third-Party Services

We use Sparkle for automatic app updates.

We use Polar.sh as our payment platform for checkout, subscription management, invoices, and paid plan lifecycle events.

Translatium AI uses models from OpenAI for AI-powered translations. When using this engine, your translation content is sent to OpenAI's servers and is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

If you use BYOK, your usage is billed directly by OpenAI based on your own API usage. You are solely responsible for those charges. Supported BYOK models currently include GPT-4o mini, GPT-4.1 mini, GPT-5.4 mini, GPT-5 nano, and GPT-5.4 nano.

We do not store translated text on our servers. Translation content is processed in real time and discarded after delivery.

7. Your Rights

You may request access to your personal data, request correction or deletion of inaccurate data, deactivate your license and remove device associations, and export the usage records that we maintain.

8. Data Retention

We retain license and usage data for the duration of your active plan plus 30 days after expiration. Translation content is processed in real time and not stored.

If a Pro subscription is canceled, access continues until the current paid period ends. If the subscription is not renewed after expiration, the related license may be deleted as part of the license lifecycle.

9. Children's Privacy

Translatium is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the last updated date.
